Today STARTED like it might be good, but it was actually just setting me up for even worse disaster. We had a delayed opening, for the "ice" on the road. I got up, got ready for work, scraped the ice of my car. Shortly after, I started hearing this "squeak squeak squeak" noise which I intended on telling Dad about as soon as I got home. I get within about 5 miles of work, when the squeaking suddenly stops. The battery light comes on. And steam starts pouring out of the car. I pull it onto the side of the road. I start calling people, but no one is around. Deciding that sitting on the side of the road in a steaming car wasn't helping my cause any, I got out, and decided to walk to somewhere I could get money for a cab. I walk down the embankment between the expressway and the service road, to the first corner. Nothing. I walk to the other side of the highway, under the bridge. Nothing but a closed nursery. First cross street I get to, there's a lady who stops for the light, gets out of her car, and starts freeing ice from her windshield wiper. I ask her if she's from around there, and if she could tell me how to get to a store or something. She points me in the direction I was walking, and says there's a gas station just a bit down the road. I suppose it would be a BIT down the road if it wasn't snowy, and I was in a car. So I walked 1.5 miles to the gas station. I got to the gas station, got some money, and called a cab. 45 minutes later they show up, and take me to work. Now, that sounds like a crappy day, right? Well, its not JUST a crappy day. It's also bizarre. See, we've gotten a TON of snow this year. And every day, I've gone to work in my same little black shoes. But today, for some bizarre reason, I decide I'm going to wear my cute little blue docs. So instead of having to trudge through snow in little black shoes, I got to trudge through snow in blue docs. Now again, you might be thinking, well, while even THAT much luck is terribly out of character for me, the fact that I actually wore my favorite comfy boots to work...for the first time EVER..on the day that I MOST needed to be wearing them...the weird part of it all is, it wasn't the first time. So either I'm lucky, or the boots are cursed. |
